We’re excited to share the news that leading Yorkshire footwear retailer, Pavers, is set to open another concession with Yorkshire Garden Centres (YGC) next month.

Pavers will open its third YGC concession at Otley Garden Centre on 22nd February, following success at Tong and Tingley Garden Centres.

“We’re thrilled to be launching at Otley Garden Centre where you will find all-new, just-landed styles that combine innovative comfort technologies and endless style inspiration, made for every season and every occasion,” said Pavers’ manager, Tanya Gosse.

Otley Garden Centre’s manager, Andy Bradley is delighted to welcome Tanya and the team to Otley: “Pavers is a great fit with Yorkshire Garden Centres as we share a Yorkshire homegrown heritage and have family values at the core of everything that we do. We wish them every success with their new shop.”

The 150m2  Pavers concession will also be home to a wide range of bags and accessories and will open with free Pavers biscuits and a competition to win shoes for a year.

Pavers is one of the UK’s leading multi-channel shoe retailers with a strong focus on comfort, quality and affordability. The footwear retailer was founded by Catherine Paver in 1971 and remains family-owned today.

Georgia Womersley was invited to be the first person to experience the new Santa’s Grotto at Otley Garden Centre after her Mum, Laura Machell, won our social media competition to be the first to experience the new, interactive grotto.

Speaking about the family’s fantastic experience, Laura said: “We had an amazing time opening the Grotto! Georgia was absolutely in awe around the whole of the Grotto. The staff work so hard to make such an incredible experience for the children. Thank you so much! We have one very happy little girl.”

The family also won a £50 gift voucher and a freshly cut Christmas tree.

“We were delighted to welcome Georgia and her family to Santa’s Grotto. It’s the first time there has been an interactive grotto with storytelling elves to create a festive family experience at Otley Garden Centre and it feels very special.  We’re really enjoying sharing the magic with our visitors young and old this Christmas,” said Andy Bradley, Centre Manager.

Christmas activities at Otley Garden Centre include breakfast with Santa, Santa’s magical post box and special festive menus in Hattie’s Kitchen. Tickets for the Grotto cost £20.95 per child and are free for up to two accompanying adults. “We’re excited to bring our Christmas experiences to our new centre at Otley. The grotto at Tong Garden Centre is always hugely successful, with visitors saying how much they love the professional performers taking them on a magical journey,” said Andy Bradley, Centre Manager.

“Our Grotto launch weekend will be full of fun and starts with Santa’s arrival and Grotto opening at 10 am on Saturday, 25th November. The fun continues with our cheeky elves, who will be painting Rudolph red noses, singing, dancing and teaching Christmas sign language, and Mrs. Claus who will be sharing heart-warming stories and spreading festive cheer. At 1 pm on  Sunday, 26th, we welcome singing princesses to Otley for a seasonal sing-along and selfies. It should be great!

“The centre is full of inspirational festive looks and there’s an impressive range of gift ideas for all the family. We’ve invested in renewable energy at Otley Garden Centre

We’re delighted to share the news that we have recently installed a 227-panel solar array at Otley Garden Centre that will save 91,715kWh of energy and will reduce the carbon footprint of the Pool Road site by 21.4 tonnes per annum.

“We are pleased to be investing further at Otley with this solar scheme. Some of the panels will be on the new roof we installed in January, with the remainder on existing buildings. There have never been any solar panels at Otley, and this was always high on our list of priorities when we acquired the business last year,” said Mark Farnsworth, Yorkshire Garden Centres’ MD.

“We have an extensive network of over 2100 solar panels throughout the group and it’s a vital part of our sustainability agenda. There have been times this summer when Tong and Tingley Garden Centres have been self-sufficient, which is great from an environmental and an economic perspective. The annual electricity generated from Otley alone would power an electric car for 367,000 miles.”

The Otley Garden Centre solar array was installed by Westwood Energy who also installed 1200 solar panels and 54 EV charging points at Tingley Garden Centre.

The installation is part of Yorkshire Garden Centres’ 2023 energy plan that also includes conducting energy-saving audits at all four sites, aligning practices across the group, delivering carbon literacy training to the teams and optimising lighting and heating systems.

We’re bringing our unique grotto experience to Otley Garden Centre

We’re very excited to share the news that we are bringing our popular interactive grotto experience to Otley.

“We can’t wait to introduce our interactive Santa experience to our new centre at Otley. We always sell out at Tong, with visitors saying how much they love our unique grotto concept with professional performers who take them on a magical journey” said Andy Bradley, Centre Manager.

“Storytelling as they go, the performers lead the group through the festive forest as the Christmas elves share how Santa’s robins make sure all the letters are sorted in time to make wishes come true! Then it’s on to Santa’s grotto to meet Father Christmas and choose a gift from his toyshop.”

Santa’s Grotto at Otley opens on 25th November. Tickets go on sale on 30th August and cost £20.95 per child. They are free for up to two accompanying adults.

Otley Garden Centre were thrilled to support a local charity, Wildlife Friendly Otley with their nature recovery plan

Wildlife Friendly Otley planned to create community orchards as part of their nature recovery plan at two sites, Westbourne Park, and Bennett Court. A kind donation from Otley Garden Centre has meant that the two sites have been underplanted with cowslips, daffodils, and wildflower seed, improving our local environments for our wildlife.

The Charity is still campaigning to get four more sites planted but needs the go ahead from Leeds Council. The orchards will not only provide more biodiversity for the town but bring free fruit to local residents.

Otley Garden Centre Outdoor Manager Chris Jubb said, ‘We are passionate about gardening, wildlife, and biodiversity so we are thrilled to be asked to donate bulbs and seeds to encourage insects, birds and small mammals to thrive in the community orchard. The Wildlife Friendly Otley volunteers are doing great work to halt the decline of biodiversity and we’re really proud to be part of this community initiative’.

Rob Tindall who is one of the trustees for Wildlife Friendly Otley said, ‘We are excited to have started this relationship with Otley Garden Centre who are very keen on working within the local community to help promote the benefits of nature. As a charity we are keen to work with any local businesses or people to help push forward our projects’.

The teams across all four of our centres love to give back to the local community, as well as supporting charities close to their hearts. We have some exciting plans for the future and are delighted to of been a part of Wildlife Friendly Otley’s nature recovery plan, we can’t wait to collaborate with them again. We’re very pleased to share the news that the Mayor of Otley, Cllr Linda Hoare, will cut the ribbon to celebrate the reopening of Otley Garden Centre at 9.30 am on 22nd April.
